Melvyn Kuetgens

Dissatisfied with the current management of the climate, economic and social crises, I decided to take action by joining and supporting the political party that seemed to me to be the most pragmatic and scientifically thought-out: Volt Europa. As a bi-national Franco-Belgian polyglot and convinced Europhile, the pan-European aspect of this party also confirmed my decision.

I come from the Faculty of Bioengineering at UCLouvain. My political awareness began with my involvement in student representation at the faculty, university, and then inter-university levels. During my time in the voluntary sector, I also had the opportunity to co-found and then co-chair a bioengineering student association, before becoming involved in various other associations offering training and experience in oratory, diplomacy and politics.

I'll get straight to the point. Here are 10 of the priorities that I defend in concrete terms:

  • Introduce fairer taxation of the wealthiest individuals in order to reduce taxes on earned income and invest in infrastructure;

  • Simplify bureaucratic procedures for farmers and SMEs;

  • Invest massively in education, R&D and innovation to revitalise our economy;

  • Supporting circular trade and the efficient use and recycling of raw materials;

  • Providing access to high-quality, affordable and socially inclusive housing, along the lines of the Vienna model;

  • Enhance rail transport with :

    • Developing intra-Belgian and intra-European night trains;

    • Increasing the comfort, accessibility (particularly for people with reduced mobility) and speed of trains (by reducing congestion on the railway network through the construction of new lines);

    • Introducing a simplified train ticketing system with cheaper tickets.

  • Developing cycle paths along the lines of those in the Netherlands and Copenhagen;

  • Supporting renewable energies and nuclear power;

  • Create a fully integrated European defence force with a revitalised defence industry and standardised military equipment to reduce our dependence on the USA and better deal with external threats;

  • Ensure the transparency of public authorities.
